Description

FSCJ Volunteers is partnering with Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens for their 36th annual Spooktacular event!

You are welcome to join FSCJ Volunteers to help Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens with their biggest fundraiser of 2023. Your participation is not only helping them care for their zoo animals, but animals throughout the world through the many conservation efforts JZG supports.

Please read through the information listed below carefully to adequately prepare for your Spooktacular night!

Spooktacular Event Details For FSCJ Students:

October 19th, 28th and 31st 4:30PM – 9:30PM

It’s as “wicked as you wish” at the 36th annual Spooktacular and each night, we’re combining beloved traditions with all-new thrills and chills. Guests are encouraged to dress up in family-friendly costumes to explore the winding pathways of themed decorations, mythical beings, and sweet treats. Spooktacular features activities for all ages from trick-or-treating to scare zones.

Candy Attendants:

Candy stations will be spread throughout the zoo to pass out treats and toys. Each area of the zoo will have a candy station with approximately 3 volunteers manning it.

Paperwork:

Please see the links below for the appropriate paperwork. Volunteers will need to complete this form prior to their day of service.

Please note that for any members under 18, a parent or guardian signature will also be required to volunteer. No one in your group can be under the age of 14.

Important information from the Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens

Please share this important information with ALL GROUP MEMBERS signed up to volunteer for the event:

  • All group members need to arrive at the zoo at 4:15 – 4:30PM at the latest.  The address is 370 Zoo Parkway, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
  • When you enter the zoo parking lot, take a left at the first intersection, and follow that all the way around the parking lot. Take another left following sign that say “Education” and “Volunteers”. (Map attached).  Please Park as close as you can to the campus. *If parking in this area is full, please park anywhere else in guest parking. *
  • Volunteers will report to the “Education Office Portable,” a fenced off area with 2 portables inside. A Volunteer Engagement Department staff member will be there to sign you in and assist you with your costume (if applicable) and complete a brief orientation to run through your responsibilities for the evening.
  • The event starts promptly at 5:30PM, but the gates will often open earlier than that. Your cooperation in getting to the zoo and signing up as quickly as possible is greatly appreciated for those reasons. We will do our best to get everyone signed out in a timely manner, but all volunteers should expect to stay until 10:00PM. Volunteers will check out at the Education Portable at the end of the night and each volunteer will have the option to receive one Spooktacular or one general admission Zoo ticket as a thank you for your participation!
  • Clothing:
    • Bottoms – khakis or black pants (please no sweats, yoga pants, blue jeans, or leggings)
    • Tops – white plain shirts with no logos
      • If members of your group want to wear a school or company logo tee, this must be approved prior to the event AND all volunteers must be wearing the same shirt.
    • Fun Halloween accessories are more than welcomed if appropriate and still fit within the clothing guidelines. Final approval goes to a member of the Volunteer Engagement Department.
    • We will provide any accessories assigned to your roles, such as vests or headwear.
    • Everyone must wear comfortable, closed-toed shoes.  Tennis shoes are usually best since you will be on your feet most, if not all, of the event.
    • Staff may dismiss group members if their clothing is not within uniform guidelines.
    •
  • COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:
    • The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens currently has no guidelines for mask wearing.
    • If volunteers feel better wearing a mask, they are welcomed to do so.
    • If so, please keep face masks free from any logos (i.e., sports, schools), political messages, or sayings. We will have extras on site if needed.
  • Volunteers should come with a reusable water bottle to have throughout the night. We will have limited water bottles for volunteer use.
  • Volunteers should eat before they arrive or can bring food with them to eat in the holding area before going out into the park (will be a limited amount of time). Break times will be brief and periodic. Purchasing zoo food while volunteering is not allowed. If anyone has a medical condition where they need to keep a snack on them, just let us know when you arrive, and we can arrange accommodation.
  • Spooktacular is rain or shine! Come prepared for the elements and if the event is cancelled, you will be notified by a Volunteer Engagement Staff Member.
