The Springfield Cleanup Corps, a program of Springfield Preservation and Revitalization in partnership with the City of Jacksonville, hosts 12-15 Community Cleanup events each year to beautify our neighborhood. This event is a special Alleyway Cleanup where we aim to clear brush, litter, overgrowth, and beautify our historic Alleyways to make them once again accessible to community members. One of the best ways to support our work is to volunteer at a Cleanup event. We will clear brush and debris along a designated set of alleyway right of ways in the Springfield Historic District. We provide gloves, trash bags, and garbage pickers for your convenience. If you have yard tools such as weedwhackers, pruners, hedge trimmers, or gardening gloves please bring those to help with our efforts.

Join FSCJ Serves in giving back to our four-legged friends! This hands-on opportunity invites students, staff, and faculty to upcycle outdated FSCJ t-shirts (such as those with the retired BlueWave logo or MAP to Success branding) into tug toys for dogs. Each campus will have a designated set-up in the Student Life Center with flyers and instructions to guide you through the process. All completed dog toys will be donated to ACPS (Assistance for Community Public Schools) to support families and pets in need.

How to Help:

All finished creations will be collected at the end of August and donated to ACPS Jacksonville.

Join us at the Hope at Hand Poetry Center, where poetry and healing come together. We're looking for thoughtful, detail-oriented volunteers to help with behind-the-scenes prep that makes our workshops possible. Your work directly supports youth and adults in schools, shelters, detention centers, and more across Northeast Florida. 

Volunteer Tasks Include: Preparing materials for poetry workshops (cutting, organizing, assembling packets) and assembling handmade cards for our monthly outreach mailings. Here are some examples!

Long Way Home and Ecohab.org are teaming up from October 20 to November 14, 2025 to transform tires, cans, and plastic bottles filled with trash into classrooms for a village near San Juan Comalapa in Guatemala. 30-year green building veteran Phil Basehart will lead instruction.

The Green Building Workshop (GBW) is Long Way Home and Ecohab’s unique 4-week intensive course designed for individuals who wish to dive deep into green-building and design topics, as taught by expert instructors. GBW participants will learn and build alongside staff and volunteers from all over the world and our experienced local team. Students have the opportunity to live in a green-designed home in a zero-waste household, an experience that can create life-changing habits. The program takes place each year at our site in San Juan Comalapa, a rural town in Guatemala’s highlands. Looking to participate in a radically green development project? Long Way Home is constructing a self-sustainable 20-building green campus in the western Highlands of Guatemala, named Hero School.  We practice several methods of alternative construction including earth rammed tires, earthbags, trash bottles, and adobe! We also boast a rainwater catchment system with the capacity to store 45,000 gallons of water. As a volunteer, you will join our local construction crew and other volunteers who participate in the construction of the school. Most of the campus is finished and operating a school of grades K-11 with 187 students and 35 local staff, while we continue construction.

In Guatemala, there is a dry season (Nov-April) and a rainy season (May-Oct), and we work throughout the whole year. We welcome volunteers of all skill levels and experiences! It is important to have a good attitude, be a team player, have the motivation to help out, and be flexible. Must be able to walk up and down hills at high elevation (7,000 ft). On-site, we have a communal kitchen. All the water we collect from rainwater, some of which is filtered for drinking water on-site and at the volunteer house.

NAMI Jax provides free in-person and online support groups to people living with a mental health condition and their families/caregivers. These groups are run by trained facilitators who have lived experience and provide support, compassion, and understanding. We provide a weekend training and all the materials you will need to succeed. 

Here are brief descriptions of the support groups we provide and their schedule: 

Young Adult Support Group: For young adults (ages 18-30) seeking support, compassion, and education about recovery. Formal diagnosis is not required. 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 6:15-7:15pm on Zoom. 

(HIGH NEED!) Teen Support Group: For high-school-age teens (about ages 14-17) seeking support, compassion, and education about recovery. Formal diagnosis is not required. 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, 6:30-8:00pm at Wolfson Children's Hospital. 

Family Support Group: For family members, caregivers and friends of individuals living with mental illness or co-occurring substance use disorder. 1st and 3rd Tuesdays, 6:30-8:00pm at at Baptist Jacksonville Main Campus. or 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, 6:00-7:30pm at Orange Park Hospital. Zoom sessions every Monday at 6:15-7:45pm.  

NAMI Jacksonville's Young Adult Advisory Council (YAAC) is a social group for young adults (ages 18-30) who want to take an active role in improving mental health and wellness for the young adult community in Northeast Florida.

We're looking for young adults who want to use their voices and ideas to:

Our primary activity is to offer free toys to children entering the courthouse. In addition, we provide literature to adults who may be in need of services.

These include Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, United Way, Hubbard House, The Women's Center of Jacksonville, Daniel Kids, The Child Guidance Center and others.

Students working toward degrees in Public Administration, Political Science, Law, or Social Services will benefit greatly from participating in this program.

This might include information benefits for clients, CWS Program, services, and orientations. Volunteering at a resettlement agency can involve a variety of responsibilities aimed at supporting refugees and immigrants as they navigate their new lives in a different country. Here are some common volunteer responsibilities at our resettlement agency.

Welcome and Orientation, Language Support, assist refugees setting up their new homes, Education and Training, Healthcare Access, Social Services Assistance, Community Outreach and Administrative Support (Assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, filing paperwork, answering phones, and organizing program materials. Provide support to staff members as needed to ensure smooth program operations).

Join us in partnering with United Way of Northeast Florida to provide hair care items to students in Full Service Schools. African-American and Hispanic hair care items are frequently overlooked when toiletry items are donated. Not all hair and skincare products meet the unique needs of the African American community and many homeless service providers have difficulty providing these necessary items. Many students from struggling families within our school system have a great need for these seldom-donated products as well.

Kits will be dispersed to our Full Service Schools network to be distributed to students or through other non-profit partner agencies that serve the homeless or veteran populations.

Case Coordination - Internship Opportunity (non-paid) - BA degree & higher

Monday – Friday: flexible hours between 9am - 4pm. Minimum 2-hour increments. Individual schedules will be coordinated with the Director of Housing should your application for an internship be approved.

Primary Purpose of Internship

As a student studying to work in the human services arena, you are required to complete a certain number of internship hours to receive your degree. You will work with the Director and current case managers in the housing program to fulfill those requirements. The responsibility of the Case Coordinator Intern will be to assist residents in our housing programs. The hours required will be discussed individually with the Director of Housing during the interview process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

You will be assigned a caseload of a maximum of 20 participants. Your primary role will be to communicate with them throughout the month and work with and support their pathway plan towards independence and document in a confidential manner.

This will include phone calls, occasional home visits, and chart documentation.

Maintain all charts and records according to HUD policies of established standards and/or grant requirements.

Participate in departmental and center-wide quality assurance initiatives.

Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and workshops as deemed appropriate by the Director of Housing.

Represent the Center to the community from time to time as instructed by the Director of Housing.

All other duties as assigned that support the internship requirements for completion.

Qualifications: 

Be enrolled in a Bachelor or higher degree program that requires social services internship hours. Casework is completed in Jacksonville, FL.

Written referral on school letterhead from appropriate Professor.

Passion for the work. If you are not in the mind-set of really helping people, this internship opportunity is not a good match for you.

Even-tempered personality - able to work with a variety of staff, volunteers, and community agencies. Professionalism is required. Positively representing the agency in the community is vital.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clients, colleagues, agency partners, and volunteers.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently.

Ability to manage time and prioritize workload efficiently. If you do not finish the hours as agreed upon, the timesheets will not be signed off on. If you are a no-show more than 2 times during your semester, your participation will be terminated and your professor will be notified.

Ability to write and communicate clearly and professionally.

ENGin is looking for volunteers to serve as speaking buddies for international students. This is a super-flexible and unique opportunity to make a difference without leaving your room. Plus, you'll get to know peers across the world!

Create your own schedule: It can be tough to fit volunteer hours into a busy schedule! ENGin offers volunteers maximum flexibility: you decide when to schedule speaking sessions with your student. If something comes up, you can reschedule a session. 

Connect with peers across the globe: The opportunity for intercultural exchange is one of the best aspects of our program. Our volunteers love getting to know their speaking buddies, learning about a different culture, and sharing stories about their own lives. 

Get valuable one-on-one tutoring experience: Armed with resources and support from our team, you'll gain valuable skills such as preparing for a session, asking good questions, and forming a strong working relationship with a peer. 

ENGin has 3 main criteria for volunteers:

Age: You should be 14-22 years old.

English fluency: Volunteers should be native English speakers or fluent in English (English level of C1-C2).

Commitment: Volunteers should be ready to dedicate 1-2 hours a week to ENGin. If you're looking for more hours, we can accommodate that too!

You don't need teaching experience to volunteer with ENGin. Our learners have all studied English grammar and vocabulary and can carry on a conversation. Volunteers are not expected to prepare or deliver formal lessons - rather, they chat informally with their buddies to help them practice and improve their spoken English.

Crisis Text Line
Crisis Text Line (Links to an external site.) is a free 24/7 national crisis-intervention and counseling service conducted exclusively through SMS text. Volunteers use the nonprofit’s web-based platform to provide emotional support to texters who are dealing with a wide range of issues– bullying, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and more. Prospective volunteers go through a screening and lengthy self-paced training. Once completed, volunteers sign-up to take one four-hour shift each week for a year.

CRIME CHARACTERS ACADEMIC SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT – 10 service hours

Crime has been central in shaping the history and society of Australia. This project will make a significant contribution to family, local, social and criminal justice history by revealing untold stories about the lives of people who committed crimes in Australia across time. It aims to discover new perspectives on the types of factors that led to individuals ending up in the prison system. In particular, it is hoped that the research will challenge existing ideas about what the label of 'criminal' has historically meant by revealing the diverse nature of the people who spent time in prison.

Why?

Transcription of these prison records offers unprecedented opportunities to discover how criminal offending fitted into the wider lives of offenders, as well as illuminating the involvement of individuals in a range of criminal activity from the end of the convict period through to the start of the Second World War. The creation of this dataset will thus bridge gaps between historical knowledge of crime and contemporary criminological research by providing insights into the contexts and patterns of offending across a period that saw significant legal and social developments, including mass migrations, changing technologies, war, economic depressions, the emergence of the narcotics traffic, and the evolution of new forms of punishment.

Our screening team is instrumental in making sure everyone has a safe visit for their appointment, for patients and staff alike. Everyone on the screening team is provided the appropriate PPE, including face shields/goggles, surgical masks, and gloves. In addition, the majority of temperatures taken are using an infrared, no-contact thermometer. Everyone is also provided position specific training before they start.

Our screening team provides the following services:

·       Takes temperatures using an infrared thermometer

·       Asks the provided COVID-19 screening questions

·       Acts as a “masking expert” ensuring that all visitors are wearing the appropriate face coverings correctly

·       Greets our visitors and helps them find their way

All volunteer positions require at least a six month commitment and 50 service hours per year. We are open Monday through Friday, with shifts for the Screener position available from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. All volunteers 18 and older must consent to a background check and medical screening, complete mandatory training, and agree to receive a flu vaccine every year.

Girls Inc. of Jacksonville hosts multiple unique events on a yearly basis. Our Women of Vision Honoree Reception, Women of Vision Celebration Luncheon, and the annual Daddy Daughter Dance are all staples in the Girls Inc. of Jacksonville culture. These events get larger every year and volunteer help is needed and appreciated.

Some events have multiple shifts of volunteers that will be assigned beforehand.

Throughout the school year, girls participate in our research based programming focused on our core values of strong, smart and bold. Girls also receive structured programming to increase reading literacy and daily homework assistance.

Volunteers should commit at least one hour at a time at any of our after school locations. Keep time under 10 hours a month in order to stay at a level 1 background screening. You can “adopt” one class or rotate sites/classes at one site. We ask that if you are teaching a skill or speaking on a topic that you rotate sites quarterly.

Build a relationship with one of our students by meeting with them once a week, Monday- Thursday, for one hour. This program has a duel focus on academic achievement and social development. Spend sessions getting to know your student and assisting them with their homework. After a portion of academic work is completed, you and your mentee can enjoy educational games and activities that help affirm the importance of academic achievement and build positive relationship skills. Full school year commitment required.

SCOTUS NOTES ACADEMIC SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT – 10 service hours

Title: SCOTUS  NOTES ACADEMIC SERVICE-LEARNING PROJECT  10 service hours

Transcribe the handwritten conference notes left by Supreme Court justices. Your transcriptions will provide unprecedented access to the justices' conversations in thousands of Court decisions.

The transcription will contribute to key research about law and politics as each participant will become a citizen archivist and transcriber, creating materials that will be of use and openly available to scholars interested in law, policy, and decision making in the nation's highest court. Perhaps the most meaningful outcome is that the collaborative will provide public access to documents that will open up the Court in ways not possible to those who cannot access the Library of Congress or travel to law schools around the country. In so doing, they will also provide these insights in a format that will lead to a better understanding of the justices' decision making process on a wide variety of important cases over the past half century.

The purpose of the project is three-fold:

Unlock Who Said What and When! Our goal is to generate a searchable archive of everything written in hundreds of meetings where the Supreme Court decided thousands of cases.            Identify A Line of Notes Use your cursor to underline a full line of text. Then you will be prompted to transcribe the text you have underlined

Transcribing Tips: Transcribe the handwritten words exactly as they appear. This includes abbreviations, shortened words, symbols, etc.  Sometimes you will come across notations that are very difficult to decipher. In fact, some words (or letters) may not be legible. This is completely normal so do not fret! Interns needed for part-time student contact tracers with the Florida Department of Health. Students will be provided with real life public health experience during a pandemic performing contact tracing while providing valuable assistance to the Department.

Students will act exclusively as contact tracers for FSCJ under the guidance of the Department of Health epidemiologists and staff. Students will receive the training and resources needed to learn the skills needed to perform contact visits.

The Department will also offer 1 or 2 paid contact tracing positions for a 6-month period. Students must be available to work a minimum of 30-40 hours/week, including nights and weekends.

Students must be highly motivated with excellent customer service skills.
