Volunteer: Program Internship (Summer & School Year)

The MaliVai Washington Youth Foundation is looking for an intern to join our program team. Interns will work with staff and volunteers to provide children enrichment activities, homework, electives and leadership classes.

Program Intern Responsibilities

Provide support to MWYF staff and the lead teacher in charge of the classroom/program area Anticipate lead teachers needs and be proactive in executing tasks for the classroom Assist teachers with lesson preparation by getting materials ready and setting up equipmentLearn and emulate MWYF staffs’ classroom management techniques in the rooms you monitor Responsible for daily academic assistance to support student’s success during homework Support recreational activities, games and enrichment curriculum at times leading small groups Manage administrative errands including grabbing supplies, making copies, walking students to the office etc Collaborate with staff to recognize issues students are facing and recommend solutions Provide a warm and caring atmosphere for students Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment Comply with state, Foundation and classroom rules and regulations Other responsibilities as assigned, including office administrative assistance, help with volunteers, partners and parents

Qualifications:

Driven and hard-working Ability to take direction and multi-task Enthusiastic about working with youth High level of professionalism

*This is not a paid internship *Fall/Spring students must be available during after school hours (3pm-6pm) *Summer hours offer flexibility between 9am-4pm

Build a relationship with one of our students by meeting with them once a week, Monday- Thursday, for one hour. This program has a duel focus on academic achievement and social development. Spend sessions getting to know your student and assisting them with their homework. After a portion of academic work is completed, you and your mentee can enjoy educational games and activities that help affirm the importance of academic achievement and build positive relationship skills. Full school year commitment required.
