According to Dawn Gilman, CEO for Changing Homelessness, this annual nationwide tradition for remembering the lives of our city’s most vulnerable is important, especially in the year of a pandemic: COVID-19 has impacted everything in our world, including our ability to gather. Chances are that unless there’s a personal connection to understanding homelessness, the average person probably doesn’t think about the fact that the life of someone who was homeless had value. Regardless of their situation or the factors that led to it, they still mattered to someone. Whether to their loved ones, or to one of the many dedicated people who helped them secure the resources needed to survive each day. They mattered, and when they are gone, their presence is missed. Greatly.”

Changing Homelessness leads the effort for services in support of ending homelessness in Duval, Nassau Clay and Flagler counties, and Savannah, Georgia. For more information, please contact Monique Elton at melton@changinghomelessness.org.
